Have a GREAT day!
I guess you also think that your daughter is a complete idiot as she spent 25 dollars on the drawing. I mean, seriously, what was she thinking? I would have thought that you could have taught her the importance of thriftiness but apparently you, while believing your child to be utterly incompetent and without taste, allow her to go to large gatherings of strangers where she is taken advantage of by teenaged hooligans. Of course, all of this is inconsequential as the price for the drawing is the standard for such a simple piece of work at these anime conventions. Your daughter knew this and purchased the item in question under completely legitimate circumstances.
I understand that you are probably not the type of person who buys original artwork so I will explain some things to you. While the actual cost of producing a piece could be nil, the finished product, being a painting, design, sculpture etc. is valued at a much higher price for various, often superficial, reasons. That is why an illustration on printer paper cost $25. How much do you think an artist spends on supplies for a $15,000 painting? Do you believe that the monetary value assigned to a piece of art has anything to do with the cost of producing it?
Slander is a serious matter, madam, especially when it occurs on the interweb. You’re lucky that you, a fifty year old woman, are only accosting a 19 year old girl who cannot afford a lawyer. Good day!
You should support your daughter a little more--maybe actually GO to a convention with her every once in a while. If you took a look around the artist alley, you would see my art is in no way drastically more expensive than anyone else's. My prices were right up front, all the information right there. Your daughter chose to purchase the commission--I did not take advantage of her in any way.
My choice of paper is my own. I don't draw on cardstock any more than I would draw on cardboard, or a sheet of styrofoam. All my examples are on printer paper--your daughter knew exactly what she was getting.
I charge everyone at a convention $25 for an inked illustration. You daughter chose to have it shipped to her, which I did FREE of charge.
So, in short, either hold her hand, follow her around at cons, and choose how she spends her every penny, or shut up and let her make her own choices.
